Dom Lilly and his business partner Ross Kessell are both Cornish locals and the owners of Dynamite Valley Brewing Co. A small independent brewery / pub or a brew-pub located at the Viaduct Works, Ponsanooth. Inspiration for the brewery came from their different experiences travelling through America. This can been seen from the types of ale they brew to the beer cafes decoration and their semi uniform of chequered jackets.

"The local community does help small businesses, like in general I think people would rather buy something if it's local small craft kind of thing instead of some big business just churning it out, even if you don’t think our beer is the best in the world its made by me and my mate so its that little bit different"

Dom and Ross opened the brewery a year ago after launching a successful crowd funding campaign which helped them gain a loyal and committed following which allowed them to move out of the porter cabin they had previously been brewing in and where they had invented their first four beers after experimenting with different recipes in a 100 litre nano-kit.

Although their inspiration comes from far and wide the boys aims are to grow the interest in locally and independently brewed beer. Dom’s interest in brewing came after years working in different pubs and other breweries. However what really sparked him and Ross to go out on their own was their love of American ales, which unlike British beer don’t conform to a traditional set of rules, instead they take what they like from different processes allowing for lots of creative concoction’s.

"Money everyday, they say if you do a business course that cash flow is king and you go yeah yeah whatever but when you actually do it you realise shit, cash flow really is king.  So you might have a sale already made but you don’t have enough money to actually produce that product or even petrol to deliver it in your car and then as soon as you do you can do it again but sometimes it just doesn’t work in that straight line."

Dynamite Valley now offers a range of 10 different beers and this list will continue to grow as Dom and Ross believe in a community led business and so regularly ask their customers what flavours they are interested in trying and then set out to create these new flavours using their American style of brewing. The pub part of the brewery known to the customers as the Beer Garden is open every Saturday and is well worth a visit.
