Ali Goodman is a skilled designer maker and co-creator of Francli. The makers of reliable and long lasting work wear and accessories for outdoor craftspeople and adventourous travellers. Ali prides herself on her holistic design methods always thinking about what the products' purpose is in order to determine its look and style. Ali will always overlook temporary solutions and the latest fashion trends and focus on longevity through precise production and lasting construction.
Francli was never meant to last more than three months. The girls were only going to come to Cornwall to create a small collection of pieces in order to take those pieces to a craftfair abroad as a stepping stone into an internship. However Ali and Franki realised they had found a niche in craftswear for craftspeople and something that really inspired and challenged them. It has not been without difficulties. What Ali has really learnt not to underprice her time as she is proud of her work and so now prices it accordingly.
"The hardest bit about being an indpendent trader is the instability, you can plan so far but in reality you don't know what's going to happen and there is no one above you that can take charge of that."
"I live in Cornwall because of the space, the mental space and physical space. The pace of it as well is really nice, it's a lot slower and more relaxing. For me I feel there are a lot less materialistic pressures compared to other places that i've lived. "
Part of Ali's and Francli's mo it to be economical to look after the natural world from which she draws her inpiration and so wherever possible Ali makes her products from salvaged material, up cycling them to turn them into her bespoke items; uniforms, bags, aprons lanyard's, phonecases, travel pouches, etc. Ali takes her inspiration from the power of making and through the business aims to support the growth and creativity of other makers not just from Cornwall but all over the world.
Ali is in no rush to expand Francli as she is happy to be in a buisness that challenges her creatively and proffesionaly whilst funding her current lifestyle. However she does hope in the future to take on more commisions and specialised jobs as it is these projects that push her to solve new problems, elavate her skills and enhance her understanding of the craft.
